The difference between Royalty Free & Rights Managed images
If you license Royalty-free images or purchase Royalty-free CD-ROMs, you obtain the use of these images for a one-time flat fee. Royalty-free images are ready for use in multiple projects such as advertising, leaflets, packaging, internet and multimedia uses, and more.
There are very few restrictions placed on how you can use these images (however please review the Royalty-free licensing terms). Royalty-free prices for single images are based on the size of the digital file you are purchasing and not their specific use. Click on the image to see pricing.
If you license Rights Managed images, you are doing so for specific pre-defined usages according to your own requirements. The licensing fees are based on several factors such as the usage, industry, duration, media, circulation and geographic distribution. You are typically granted a one-time usage rights (though this can be negotiated according to your needs), and you must follow Imagefile’s Rights Managed Licensing Terms for such usage.
By using Rights Managed, you are assured that there is limited usage of the image; you can even request exclusive rights to an image to eliminate its simultaneous usage by other agencies and competitors.
Searching by Keyword, Image number & Photographer
If the result of your search is too extensive and you would like to improve your search results, you only need to add the following three words AND OR or NOT after the first word entered into the search criteria.
Quick Tips: Let’s say you need an image of a child with glasses -
Keywords should be child AND glasses NOT “drinking glasses” NOT sunglasses
Remember that if you click on an image you can see the keywords that describe the image. If in your search you find images whose criteria do not fit with your search, click on the image; identify the keyword that doesn’t interest you and include it into your search preceded by “NOT”, to reduce the amount of superfluous imagery.
Write combined words in between quotation marks (e.g.: “New York, marine mammals”) and add logical operators if necessary (e.g.: “New York AND police”).
Use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard (e.g.: write sho* to automatically include words like shower, shout, shoe, shore etc. in your search. You may also use the wildcard at the beginning of words (e.g.: *board will include words like snowboard, blackboard, etc.).
To search for a Rights Managed image:
Tick Boxes for Rights Managed; Speciality Category i.e. Historical & Fine Arts; format; image orientation.
To search for a Royalty Free image:
Tick Boxes for Royalty Free; Speciality Category i.e. Historical & Fine Arts; format; image orientation.
If you choose to include both Rights Managed and Royalty Free images, search results will be displayed within 3 tabs: Total images, Rights Managed search results and Royalty Free search results.
Enter either singular or plural forms; both will be searched.
Use the infinitive or the gerund for verbs.
Use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard (e.g.: write sho* to automatically include words like shower, shout, shoe, shore etc. in your search. You may also use the wildcard at the beginning of words (e.g.: *board will include words like snowboard, blackboard, etc.).
Quick Tips: Image number search tips: Enter as many image codes as you want, separated by a comma and without any spacing. e.g. 4576,2900.
If you enter an erroneous image code, you will not be shown any error messages as long as you have entered at least one correct code.
Photographer search tips : Write the photographer’s last name. When searching for more than one photographer write or between each name (e.g.: Coll OR Yarvin).
If you are using a combined name concept in your search, write it in quotation marks (e.g.: Jaume Gual, Butch Martin).

You can sort your lightboxes alphabetically by title, client or project, by date, or by number of images; furthermore, you may sort in ascending or descending order: just click on the column name to alternate between ascending/descending order. If you wish to hide the lightbox list, press > Hide lightbox list; in order to show it back, press > Show lightbox list.

If you create a new lightbox, it will become the active one. You cannot have more than one active lightbox at the same time.
Lightbox details
Lightboxes can have a title, a client name, a project name and some notes; these details can be entered when a new lightbox is created or at any time by pressing > Modify details; at this point, you may also change the expiry date and set it to 6 months from now.
Acting over a group of images at a time
If you wish to act over a group of images at a time, you may select them all first by ticking the box underneath each thumbnail. There are 3 actions you may perform over a group of images: remove them from your lightbox, copy them to your shopping cart or copy them to another lightbox.
To copy them to another lightbox, choose the target lightbox > Copy.
To assist in selecting groups of images, there are two buttons at the beginning of the thumbnail section, which let you select. Check All and Clear All.
